On Okie Street NE, the Humane Rescue Alliance of DC discovered a Pit Bull mix in dire need. A 9-month-old puppy named Shepherd was critically malnourished and dehydrated, lying helpless in a gutter for 12 hours. Unfortunately, his organs were beginning to fail as well.
The poor Shepherd was transferred to a hospital nearby due to his severe condition. Sadly, the veterinarian didn’t have high hopes for him since he kept collapsing and had terrible mange that was worsening his skin. But, to everyone’s surprise, the Shepherd persevered through the critical phase with intense care and managed to regain his strength to live again!
Shepherd, the adorable and affectionate dog, is currently staying at a temporary shelter located in Burke, Virginia. His loving foster mother, Kim O’Keefe, is appalled by the cruel treatment he received in the past. However, thanks to her tender care and attention, Shepherd is gradually recuperating and gaining strength with each passing day. Soon, he will be ready to find his forever home and spread joy and love to his new family.
In the meantime, volunteers from the Humane Rescue Alliance are helping the police track down the person who heartlessly left Shepherd to suffer in the gutter like garbage, even though the shelter was close by. It’s a terrible and senseless act of cruelty that deserves justice.
