Allow me to introduce you to Maia, an Oriental cat who is as gentle as can be and has striking features that will leave you in awe. She is the perfect furry companion for anyone looking for a peaceful and loving pet.
I have an immense fondness for cats of all breeds and colors, however, there’s something about black cats that I simply can’t get enough of. These sleek little panthers are adored by cat lovers worldwide and it’s easy to see why. One particular black cat named Maja, an Oriental Shorthair living in London, England, stole my heart with her long, ballerina-like frame and striking features, especially those adorable ears. But don’t let all those fierce stares fool you, because the truth is, she’s a big softie! I caught up with her cat dad, hoping to feature her on the site, and thankfully he agreed. So everyone gets to know Maja now…
What inspired you to choose her unique name? Maia is named after one of the greatest ballerinas of the century, Russian Ballerina Maya Plisetskaya, because she exudes grace and elegance in her movements (and her silky black coat). Can you describe her personality? Maia is cautious but curious. She will patiently wait for a good vantage point and eventually investigate anything new. Loud, unexpected noises and hidden spots are every cat for themselves!
What does she enjoy doing in her free time? She works as a trained assassin and flies effortlessly into action with cunning and lightning fast attacks. Flies are no match for her patience. They fly into windows and are completely oblivious to the idea that they have wandered into the proverbial “lion’s den.” Their death is assured. Various colorful strings and houseplants have met a similar demise. Maia is also an avid birdwatcher. Does she have any dog or cat housemates at home? Maia has Loki, who is a white Siamese cat with blue eyes. He is slightly younger than Maia and his personality is entirely opposite to hers. Loki acts like he’s still a kitten. He’s bold and sticks his nose into anything; his curiosity is insatiable. He has his own Instagram page: lookthewhitesiamesecat. Does she have a chatty personality like most Oriental Shorthair cats? She didn’t use to be. However, in the last six months, she has become much chattier. She discovered that when she wants my attention, she simply looks at me in the eyes and meows; I am overcome with an urge to go and pet her and rub her gently. This process seems to have accelerated over the last months. It must be nice to get a massage on request. See also.

She is a gentle soul who loves to curl up on my lap or climb to a high vantage point and survey everything. She is a thoughtful cat and makes decisions and movements only after careful study and observation. She and Loki both eat only raw meat. Cats are complete carnivores, after all.
