From sickly to thriving: How a pit bull’s life was saved after a battle with a massive tumor.

Animal sanctuaries are renowned for their incredible efforts in providing abandoned pets with a fresh start in life. Despite the shocking state that certain animals arrive at these sanctuaries, the staff always rise to the challenge and provide them with the care and love they require. This was undoubtedly the case with Libby, a pit bull who had a tumour the size of a volleyball. Fortunately, her story has a happy ending. When the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County received the stray dog, they immediately noticed her sweet face and kind eyes, as well as her lively nature. However, they also discovered a medical emergency – a massive 10-pound tumour, which was one of the largest they had ever seen.

Upon Libby’s arrival, the shelter was in a state of chaos and urgency, responding to three critical cases within 48 hours. As the largest-intake shelter in Washington, they were receiving numerous new animals every day. However, despite the overwhelming circumstances, the shelter staff committed to offering Libby the highest level of care possible, even though her future was uncertain. In August, they stated that while they were unsure of the outcome, Libby deserved the most compassionate care. The veterinary team began by testing for the type of tumor, as pain medication was administered to ease her discomfort. After performing an x-ray, they discovered that the tumor was located in the bone of her upper right leg, necessitating amputation. The tumor had swelled unusually due to reactive inflammation, causing Libby excruciating pain.

Thanks to the kind donations from supporters, the animal shelter was able to afford the cost of Libby’s leg amputation. The procedure was a success and she was finally relieved of the pain she had endured for so long. However, despite the removal of her tumor, Libby was unfortunately diagnosed with aggressive bone cancer, which meant that her time on earth might be limited. On a positive note, Libby has found a new home! HSTPC reported that a veterinary technician fell in love with Libby and decided to adopt her. Despite being aware of Libby’s condition, she was determined to give her all the love and care she needed during her remaining days. According to the adopter’s Facebook post, there was something in Libby’s eyes that made her irresistible.

Libby, the rescued dog, has been given a new name “Wiggles” and is loving her new life with her furry sibling and human family. Despite her uncertain future, the Humane Society is grateful for the community’s kindness that has ensured that Wiggles will spend her remaining days surrounded by love and comfort. We extend our gratitude to everyone who saved and gave Wiggles a second chance. Let’s spread the love for dogs by sharing this heartwarming story! ❤️
