While on the road, a car stopped to offer Violet and several other dogs who were chained with thick metal chains some help. Not only did these chains prevent the dogs from wandering freely, but they also caused harm to them.
When Violet was discovered, she was about two years old and Angela Stell, the founder and director of NMDOG, suspects that she had been chained up her entire life. Along with five other dogs, Violet was found on a property in New Mexico where it is illegal to keep dogs chained up without human supervision.
The local sheriff’s department was sent to the property to locate the owners, but it appeared that the dogs were abandoned. NMDOG took all of them, including Violet, and the recovery journey began. “She was startled and still a bit apprehensive,” said Stell. They believe that Violet might have been mistreated based on her behavior. Fortunately, the puppy is currently in good health and recovering from her emotional trauma. She will be eligible for adoption once her recovery is complete!
